Snorkeling on Gili
Snorkeling on Gili is, in our opinion, one of the main reasons for which it is worth visiting these islands. It can even be said that snorkeling in their coastal waters is the main business card of Gili, which attracts tourists here. So, going here, do not forget to bring a mask with a tube and an underwater case for your camera or smartphone. And even if you forget, it doesn't matter: everything here is so well "sharpened" for this kind of entertainment that you can easily buy everything you need on the spot, or rent it.
The most interesting thing about snorkeling on Gili is, of course, the opportunity to see and swim with sea turtles. In addition, there are beautiful fish, corals and man-made underwater objects. For example, the underwater sculpture Bask Nest is very popular, which translates roughly as "Cozy Nest". It is mandatory to visit it during ready-made snorkeling tours on boats.
You can swim with a mask on the Gili yourself and for free right from the shore. There are even places designated as Turtle Beach, you can easily find them on maps or just while walking around the perimeter of the islands. Here, almost at the very shore, the chance to see sea turtles is almost guaranteed. We have tested this on our own experience – we found them easily. Moreover, even if you do not know how or are afraid to swim, this is not a problem, since turtles live even in shallow water, it is enough to go into the water a little further than waist-deep.
But from the shore you will not see an abundance of beautiful fish and corals, and underwater sculptures. Therefore, you can buy a snorkeling tour to points around all three islands. They are offered here at every turn in travel agencies and hotels, the price is the same everywhere for a boat tour in a group. Tours last from 3 to 5 hours, are held at different times of the day, the price depends on it (about prices and schedule below). You can also hire a private boat individually for yourself or a small group.

You can swim on your own from the shore at any time. Group boat tours depart several times a day starting at 08:00 and up to 16:00. Each organizer has his own schedule, you can check on the spot. Private boat tour at any time convenient for you by appointment.
💵Entrance fee / ticket price
Independently from the shore – free of charge. Rent mask +snorkel, fins, life jacket – 25 000 rupees (1.53 rub). There is also a rental of smartphone and camera cases, a rental of an underwater camera. Group boat tours – from 150,000 rupees/person (rate temporary unavailable/span> RUB), the price includes a mask, snorkel, fins. Individual tour – from 1000 000 rupees (6.14 RUB), you can bargain.
🚶 How to get there
You can swim with a mask absolutely anywhere on your own, but the best conditions are on the eastern beaches (this is on the right side of the map), because there is more depth near the shore. Also on Google maps and in applications Maps.me and Organic maps marked the points of beaches with turtles. As for boat tours, they are sold everywhere in street travel agencies and hotels.
