Description and is it worth a visit
The observation Tower of Syahbandar (Menara Syahbandar) is located near Jakarta Maritime Museum, and is part of it. It is visited by tickets to the museum, and individual tickets to it are not sold.
It was built in 1839 and served as an observation tower for ships entering the city of Batavia (the old name of Jakarta) and leaving them along the sea route. There was also a "customs" service to collect taxes on goods that were unloaded at the port.
The height of the tower is 12 meters, and at the age of about 180 years, it gradually tilts, for which it received the popular name "Leaning Tower". If you go upstairs, you can feel how it sways because of the heavy trucks passing by on the highway.
Inside, at the base of the tower and around it, there are several marine-themed exhibits, and when you go upstairs, you can see the surroundings and the port through the observation windows. Of course, the views are not the same as before, and the ships in the port are almost invisible due to the development, but after visiting it and the maritime museum, you can walk and walk around the old seaport of Sunda Kelapa.

Entrance to the tower is not paid separately, you need to buy tickets to the Maritime Museum for 5000 rupees (0.28 USD, see Indonesian currency, exchange rate) adults; 2000 - children.
🚶 How to get there
Located in the port area (Sunda Kelapa district, See areas of Jakarta where to stay) near the maritime Museum (tower on the map). You can get there by Transjakarta Busway buses to the Pakin stop along corridor 12 and then 5 minutes on foot, or by city trains to the final station of Jakarta and then one and a half kilometers on foot.
