Ruins of the temple of Candi Mendut (Chandi Mendut, Candi Mendut or Mendut Temple) are located 3.5 kilometers from the entrance to Borobudur, and are usually visited together with it. It was built, presumably, in the IX century, and this is the oldest of the trinity of temples Candi Mendut, Borobudur and Candi Pawon located on the same line. The temple consists of one stupa with a square base, hollow inside.
