What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Lazarevsky temple - the oldest in Pyatigorsk. Its full name is the temple in honor of the Lord Jesus Christ, who raises Lazarus the fourth day from the dead. It makes sense for tourists to visit it only together with the grave of Lermontov and the ancient cemetery, but not separately.
The original church on this site was designed by the Bernardazzi brothers, architects originally from Sweden. It was they who designed the appearance of the resort of Pyatigorsk, according to their projects parks, squares, and many current historical attractions were built. The construction of the church was completed in 1856, after the death of the architects. But it did not last long, 28 years. The building cracked due to poor soil, and it was completely dismantled. In 1895, architect V. V. Graff developed a new project, according to which the temple was erected for 7 years, and partially used the bricks of the old building.
