Togliatti (Togliatti) - city in Samara region on the banks of the Volga River, 100 kilometers from Samara and 1000 kilometers from Moscow (Togliatti on the map of Russia, Togliatti on the map of the Samara region). Togliatti is not the capital of the region, while it is the largest city that is not the center of a federal subject, i.e. not the capital of a province or republic. The population of the city according to official data is slightly more than 700 thousand people (18th place in the Russian Federation).
As an independent tourist destination, it is practically not interesting, and first of all it is known as an industrial city and the capital of the domestic automotive industry thanks to the Volga Automobile Plant (AvtoVAZ) located here. However, it is a convenient starting point for visiting the Samarskaya Luka National Park and the Zhiguli Nature Reserve. There are also several attractions worth visiting in the city.
The fortress city on the site of the present Togliatti was founded in 1737 and was then named Stavropol, which means "city of the cross". It's hard to believe, but at the beginning of the twentieth century Togliatti had the glory of a therapeutic and climatic resort, there was a well-known kumysolechebnitsa all over the country. However, in the middle of the last century, almost the entire historical part of the city was flooded during the construction of the Zhiguli hydroelectric power station and the creation of the Kuibyshev reservoir for these purposes, and the city was moved to a hill. As a result, there were no historical objects left in Tolyatti, almost all of it was rebuilt in a new place. The result is a very young and comfortable city with wide streets, new houses, developed infrastructure, but almost no history.
Holidays in Togliatti
Togliatti, as an independent tourist destination, is of little interest. This is a well-developed city with good infrastructure and wide roads, but there are very few interesting objects for tourists, and there is no special tourist infrastructure at all. There is not even a tourist area or a pedestrian street where tourists could stroll on summer evenings, as well as any significant monuments of architecture or history. The architecture in the city is too dull, consists of mostly Soviet-built concrete boxes, there are no old buildings at all. During a tourist holiday in Togliatti, you can visit one of the few museums, sunbathe on the city beaches in summer, and, perhaps, that's it. In fairness, it should be said that several local museums are very good and worthy of visiting by tourists even from other cities.
Entertainment in Togliatti is the same as in any major Russian city: cinemas, nightclubs, large shopping centers, there is a theater, philharmonic hall, entertainment parks for children and adults. There is even a diving center that organizes training and diving in the Volga waters, the places of the flooded old town are especially interesting. Sometimes car races are held on the dirt circuit of the KVC, as well as Christmas races on ice in the vicinity of the city. But there is nothing special especially for tourists from entertainment here, all the entertainment is standard, mainly for local residents. There is not much entertainment for children: there are entertainment parks in shopping malls, a city amusement park (carousels, slides, a summer children's water park, etc.), a cartodrome. In summer there is a mobile zoo, a circus tent.
Weather and tourist seasons in Togliatti
The climate and weather in Tolyatti are the same as in most regions of central Russia: cold winters and hot summers that last only three months. Winters are not very cold here, the temperature rarely drops below -20, but most of the winter stays around -10. The summer months are mostly hot, especially July, when the temperature can reach +30.
By and large, there is no big difference at what time of the year you will go to Togliatti for a tourist stay, since you can see the few museums of the city at any time. However, if you plan to come to Togliatti to visit the Samarskaya Luka National Park, it is best to come in the summer. Sights of Togliatti
Unfortunately, there are no significant historical or architectural attractions in Togliatti. Tourists can visit several museums here, including a very worthy local history museum, a museum about the history of the city "Heritage", an art and museum of modern art, and a real "pearl" - the technical museum named after him. How to get there
Tolyatti can be reached by plane via Samara Kurumoch Airport, by train, by buses from other cities of the region and neighboring regions. There is a railway station in the city, but it is a dead-end station, so you can only get by train from Moscow and by trailer cars from St. Petersburg, in the summer season also from Sochi. Therefore, if you want to get to Tolyatti by train, you should go to Samara or Syzran, and from there to Tolyatti by bus or taxi. Bus transport to Togliatti is very well developed, there are buses even from CIS countries. Even if there is no flight from your city, it is easy to get by bus through Samara. Safety in Togliatti
In the 90s Togliatti became famous throughout the country as one of the criminal capitals. A lot of organized criminal groups staged shootings, and this was not uncommon. Today, nothing like this is happening, the city has become much safer and calmer in terms of organized crime. However, due to the poor economic situation in this monotown, the impoverished population and unemployment, street property crimes such as robberies and robberies often occur in Togliatti, and this happens even during the day.
