Water tower - a historical landmark of Arzamas and one of the famous architectural symbols of the city, an object of cultural heritage of regional heritage. The tower was built in the period from 1890 to 1911 on the initiative of archpriest of the Trinity Church Arzamas Fyodor Ivanovich Vladimirsky, who was simultaneously a deputy of the State Duma and became an honorary citizen of the city. He had been studying the city's surroundings for clean water for more than a decade, as water supply had always been a problem here. One of these sources was discovered in a wet ravine, and a water pipe was built from it to fill the tower.

The tower performed its direct function until the second half of the XX century, until in 1982 its wooden upper part burned down. The burned part was replaced with brickwork, and it became just an architectural symbol of the city, on the upper tier of which the coat of arms of Arzamas flaunts.
