What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting

Cathedral Square is the main square of Arzamas, the heart of the city and its iconic landmark. Although it would be more correct to say that this is the place where most of the attractions are concentrated, because it is here that all the main temples of the city are located: the Ecumenical Cathedral, the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God, the St. Nicholas Convent and many more churches and temples that can be viewed from the square. City celebrations and festivals are also held here. Most often, most of the guests of the city are limited to viewing the square and its attractions, and continue their journey.

You can move around the Cathedral Square completely freely and inspect everything you want. Many temples can be entered and inspected from the inside, but, of course, subject to the rules of dress and behavior. What is convenient, you can park a car on the square, and from here you can start a walking tour of all the sights of Arzamas.

Despite the significance and scale of this place, Cathedral Square has its drawbacks, which we will mention that you were not discouraged by them during your visit. In fact, the square does not create the impression of a square as such at all. There is little open space here, it is very crowded, transport and bus stops are everywhere. In addition, there is a city bus station and a market nearby, around which the corresponding contingent of beggars and drunkards constantly revolves.
