Attention! Due to the commissioning of the Crimean Bridge, the information in this article is no longer relevant for road travelers.
The ferry "port Kavkaz" - "Port Kerch" to the Crimean Peninsula is well organized, you can cross both passengers and passenger and cargo transport. Even railway cars are transported on ferries. But still there are some nuances that road travelers should learn about in advance before the trip, so as not to lose time through ignorance, or not to be refused a crossing at all. To do this, we collected information about the ferry to the Crimea in questions and answers:
The General Order of crossing by car
- When approaching the crossing, you do not need to immediately go directly to the ferry, first you need to call in the intercepting drive, which is located 12 kilometers from the port itself (see the map at the end of the article). The drive is right next to the road and there is a pointer to it. All cars must enter the drive, even if an electronic ticket is purchased in advance.
- In the drive, you need to move along the arrows to the inspection point, where the length of the transport is measured (since the ticket price depends on the length). After the measurement, you need to drive further to the queue of cars or the barrier (if possible, choose the shortest queue, or a row without a queue at all), and leave the car with passengers here.
- Then follow on foot to the ticket office with documents and money to buy tickets and get a boarding pass. At the cash desk you will need to present passports, birth certificates for children, technical passport. For e-tickets, it is desirable to have a printout of the ticket, but you can do with the booking number.
- After receiving the boarding pass at the ticket office, return to the car and leave the drive again on the road. Do not remove the documents far, as they will have to be presented several more times. Then you need to drive another 12 kilometers to the port itself. At the entrance to the port there will be a fork where you need to turn to the ferry to the right at the sign "Ferry", and not at the sign to "Port Kavkaz".
Ferry deck to Crimea - When approaching the Port, move all the way, but do not get in line for trucks, they have their own turn. If there is no queue, then continue to the inspection area. Here, the car and passengers are subjected to security screening, as when boarding a plane. Inspect the transport, may require to get bags and personal belongings and pass them through the X-ray unit, people are passed through the metal detector. But do not confuse this with customs inspection: Transport Safety Control is carried out here, so there are no restrictions on the transportation of food, alcohol, personal belongings, as long as there is nothing illegal.
- After the inspection, you again get to the waiting area, where you are already waiting to board. Port officials will distribute cars on the sides and decks of the ferry, so go where you are directed.
- Park the car, be sure to raise the parking brake (handbrake). After that, you can get out of the car, climb to the upper deck, and watch as the coast of Crimea approaches.
- When the ferry docks, leave on command from the ferry, and you can go anywhere, there will be no more controls.

Where and how to buy tickets
Tickets can be purchased directly upon arrival at the crossing at the ticket office, or in advance to buy an electronic ticket on the website. There is no difference in price, but in order to save time it is better to buy e-tickets. With an e-ticket, you are guaranteed to get on the ferry in the time period that was chosen when buying the ticket (unless bad weather interferes with the ferry), while the "live" queue will wait. But with the purchase of e-tickets there are several features:
- When buying an electronic ticket, you will need to select a date and time interval (timeslot) at 6 o'clock. It will be possible to cross the ferry during the selected time interval, the exact time is not specified.
- If there are no free time slots when buying a ticket for the time you need, this does not mean that the tickets have run out. You can come at this time to the crossing, get in line, and buy tickets "live" at the box office.
- You can not change the time and date of the purchased ticket, you can only return it and buy another ticket. But keep in mind that when you return tickets, you will lose part of the cost.
The cash registers of the "live sale" are not located at the crossing itself, but at the storage site 12 kilometers before the crossing itself. If you pass the storage area, you will have to return to it, otherwise you will not get on the ferry. But even if you purchase e-tickets, you will still need to call at the accumulation site for measuring transport (measuring the length) and receiving boarding passes. Without boarding passes, even with an electronic ticket on board will not be allowed.
To purchase tickets and / or register, you will need: a vehicle passport (technical passport), passports for all passengers, birth certificates for children. A foreign passport for citizens of the Russian Federation is not required.
Ferry schedule
Ferries run frequently, every 40-50 minutes on schedule 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Therefore, there is no need to adjust to the exact schedule, you can just come and wait for the next departure. And, most likely, this time will just go to the purchase of tickets and registration, inspection, and waiting in line.
However, ferry cancellations can sometimes occur due to bad weather. Information about possible cancellation/delay is published on the official website. In this case, the queue for the ferry increases, and after the resumption of work, the machines are sent in the order of the queue.
Ferry queues
In winter, at the beginning and at the end of the season, there are practically no queues on the ferry, unless there are interruptions due to the weather. High season (July, August) significant queues can gather, it takes several hours to wait. And if there are still interruptions due to the weather, you can stand in line for several days.
