Beaches of Alupka

A frying pan or the Cote d'Azur

Contrary to such a loud name, central location and what pseudo-travelers write about this beach on the Internet, there is nothing even close to the "Cote d'Azur" on this stretch of coast. On the two-hundred-meter length of this beach, only 10-20 meters are available for recreation and swimming, and the rest is filled with concrete, occupied by concrete blocks and huge boulders. Moreover, even these 10-20 meters are covered with crushed stone (not pebbles!!!), at least that was the case during our visit in 2023, look at the photo. From the infrastructure there is only a cafe and a toilet. There are sun beds for rent for 300 rubles / day, but they are not located near the water, but at a higher level next to the cafe.

Skovorodochka or the Cote d'Azur is closest to the center of Alupka (this is the area around the bus station), on foot only 10 minutes or 500 meters (A frying pan on the map). But as usual, you will have to go down on the way to the beach, and back to the center to climb to a height of almost 20 floors.

The beach of the hotel "Dream by the Sea"

To be honest, it is difficult for us to imagine that this "artificial beach" can attract someone, but since it exists, it is impossible not to tell about it. As such, there is no beach at the Dream by the Sea hotel, but there is a platform for guests near the shore, on which there is a cafe, a place to relax and sunbathe. Swimming here is offered directly from the platform.

Sleep by the Sea is located right after the Cote d'Azur in the center, from the bus station area you will also have to walk 10 minutes here and down all the time (Sleeping by the Sea on the map).

The beach of the sanatorium "Mountain Sun"

If you are unlucky enough to stay in the central part of Alupka near the bus station and have to choose one of the beaches on this stretch of coast (Cote d'Azur, the "Dream by the Sea" platform or this one), then we would recommend the Mountain Sun. Although the beach belongs to the sanatorium, it is not officially curative or children's, and therefore it is open to everyone. There is a guard at the entrance, but they let everyone through without any problems. The only limitation is that the "guests" can use the facilities on the shore only for a fee, and for the clients of the sanatorium all this is already included.

Which is good, the beach is well equipped, there is everything for recreation. But what's bad is there's not a lot of space on the shore, and everything is spoiled by anti–storm concrete hedgehogs, but apparently there's just no way without them. The mountain Sun is located on the left side of the coast in the center of Alupka, 10 minutes from the bus station area here and down all the time (Mountain Sun on the map).

Alupka beach or Black Hill

In general, this beach has two names at once: Alupkinsky and Black Hill. Some guidebooks mistakenly call it the "Green Cape", but this is not true, see about the Green Cape below.

The Alupka beach with a length of just over 200 meters is located in a bay under a rocky cliff. Although it is located a little further from the center of the village and the bus station than the beaches listed above, but in fact it is the most popular place for a beach holiday at the resort.

There are pebbles mixed with sand on the shore here, and therefore the water is not as clear as on the rest of the Alupka beaches, you will immediately feel it. But there are much fewer waves here, because it is located in a protected bay, and the conditions for family holidays with children are better: there are almost no dangerous stones and concrete at the bottom, the depth is acceptable.

Although this is one of the most popular beaches in Alupka, you should not expect too much from it. There is no embankment here at all, minimum entertainment, amenities too. Deck chairs are rented for 300 rubles / day, but there are few of them, and there are not enough for everyone during the peak season, so take care of the availability of your inflatable or tourist mat. A simple bedspread or blanket is not very suitable here, because there are stones on the shore. For entering the water, bathing shoes – aqua shoes will also not hurt. By the way, you can buy them at a market in the center near the bus station from 400 rubles per pair.

On the right side of the beach there is a cafe where you can have a snack (prices are high) or buy fast food and drinks, including draft low-alcohol. The only entertainment offered here is catamaran rental, and sometimes banana rides work, nothing else.

Although the main Alupka beach is located a little away from the center, in fact it is easy to walk to it from anywhere in the village, in whatever part of it you stop (Alupka or Black Hillock on the map). For example, from the bus station here go a little more than a kilometer. We do not advise you to go to it by car, there will still be nowhere to park it, and even for money, there is simply no place here. To finally get to the shore, you will have to go down the slope and steep stairs along the cliff from a height of almost 20 floors, and back, of course, climb the same way.

Green Cape Beach

On the right side of the bay, in which the main Alupka beach is located, there is a small stretch of shore, which is considered to be the beach of the sanatorium "Green Cape". In fact, this is a public beach, anyone can come here to swim, but there are hardly many of them. The shore here is just a pile of stones, and is not at all suitable for a holiday with children or for those who do not know how to swim well. A ladder is equipped to enter the water here, otherwise it is simply not safe to go down. Its only plus is more transparent water compared to the main beach.

But on the shore there is a recreation area with sun loungers on the sand. If you want to imagine yourself vacationing on beautiful sandy beaches, you can come here, and if there are deck chairs unoccupied by the guests of the sanatorium, you can relax on them for a fee. But it will not work to sit on the sand with your towel, there is too little space.

The Green Cape is located on the right side of the bay, you can get from the main beach in a few minutes on foot (Green Cape on the map).

The beach behind the Green Cape

Another beach, which is commonly called the Green Cape. It is small, publicly accessible and wild in length, although an equipped staircase leads to it. The part suitable for rest and swimming is about 100 meters. There is no infrastructure and a lot of stones mixed with pebbles, but there are very few vacationers and clear water. Further along the shore from it stretches a rocky and very wild coast, which nudists love and call it wild beach named after Monk Berthold Schwartz. There is nothing more to say, everyone will say a photo.

The beach behind the Green Cape is really located behind the cape on the right side of the Alupka Bay (behind the Green Cape on the map). But it will not be possible to get along the shore from the main Alupka beach to it, the cape is too rocky. You can walk along the trail on top of the cape, and then go down to the shore on an old metal ladder. To get here from the village, be guided by the bus stop "Green Cape", from which the beach is just a few minutes walk along the narrow road between the sanatoriums.

Boathouse beaches

In the western part of Alupka, an array of boathouses stretches along the shore, along which stretches a beach and a concrete embankment. If you don't know, then boathouses are garages for boats, which enterprising Crimeans convert into housing for rent in the form of rooms on the first line. Although it is not very legal, for vacationers in Alupka it is the only option to stay right on the seashore, even with your own car. So do not be surprised that while walking along the embankment you will walk as if in a parking lot.

The beach itself does not represent anything special here, and it is unlikely that you will purposefully want to come to it. But if you are staying in this part of the village, then there will simply be no other options nearby for you. The entire shore is covered with concrete close to the water here, there are only a few narrow "islands" with pebbles. But you shouldn't count on them either, because the wind is strong here and large waves are formed even in good weather. There is nothing from infrastructure and entertainment here.

Boathouse beach is one of the most remote from the center, 2 kilometers from the bus station here. Getting to the shore is not difficult, the passage is not closed, but you will have to find a passage to it first. It is located from Lenin Street opposite this beach, there is a homemade sign to the boathouses (boathouse beaches on the map). Further down to the shore there is a narrow road along which you can even drive by car. But you will not go to the embankment, there is a boathouse barrier there. But there are places where you can park your car on the way.

Frog Beach

After the boathouses, the chain of beaches of Alupka is completed by the Frog beach, and Simeiz is already beginning behind it, and behind the fence, through which it is impossible to cross the shore. "Frog" got its name because of the rock of the same name, or maybe vice versa, now no one knows for sure. But officially, part of this beach belongs to the children's anti-tuberculosis sanatorium. Bobrova, so during the bathing of children you may be asked to leave here temporarily.

There are already significantly more places on the shore than boathouses, there is even a cafe, fast food and drinks on the embankment, a rescue tower is working. You can even come here on vacation with children, but you should take good care of them, because the coast here is also prone to strong waves. Well, look at the rest in the photo.

To get to the Frog from the center of the village, you will have to walk almost three kilometers (Frog on the map). The passage through the territory of the sanatorium is closed, and therefore you first need to get to the beaches of the boathouses, and then walk along the embankment here.

City beach or Vorontsov baths

The title of the most popular among vacationers in Alupka is shared between this City and Alupka (Black Hillock). But at the same time we can confidently say that the City is better equipped, and against its background Alupkinsky looks just a wild beach. The city is moderately clean and quite developed for such a resort. There is a budget cafe and rental of sun loungers, a small concrete embankment and a free toilet. There are not a lot of places on the shore, but there are not too many vacationers here either, because it is a little far and difficult to get to it. But this is the only beach in Alupka where there is always at least some water entertainment: catamaran rental and SUP-surf boards, banana riding and gyro scooter rental.

To get to the Grodno beach of Alupka, you will have to go through Vorontsov Park, from the bus station it is about one and a half kilometers (Urban on the map). Of course, you will have to go down the paths and stairs.

Children's beach

The children's beach is the most convenient place for swimming with children at this resort. It is small, less than 40 meters, but it is located in an almost closed cozy bay, fenced from the sea by a chain of stones. There is a shallow depth here and there are almost no waves, rescuers are working, so it can be called safe even for the youngest, although parents, of course, should never lose vigilance. There are large stones and small sharp pebbles at the bottom, so it won't be very good here without special bathing shoes.

The children's beach is public. There is a cafe on the shore, drinks and fast food are sold, there is a changing cabin, shower and toilet, deck chairs are rented from 300 rubles/day. True, there are not enough sunshades for everyone, and there is little shade here. At the height of the season, even banana rides appear, and you can rent a water catamaran.

The children's is located under the Vorontsov Palace, a kilometer from the center (detskiy on the map). It can only be reached on foot, and although there is an asphalt road leading to it, the passage for cars is closed.
