The ancient Greek crypt of Geroon in Anapa

The ancient Greek crypt of Geroon in Anapa is an important historical landmark that tells about the ancient history of Anapa. However, to be honest, it is unlikely to be very attractive and spectacular for most tourists. It is just a small stone structure (see photo), which can be viewed from the outside and peered through the grille inside. You can't go inside the crypt, and even if you could, there's nothing inside anyway. Nevertheless, if you pass nearby, you can stop at the crypt for a couple of minutes and read the information plate.

The crypt dates back to the III century BC and belongs to the Bosporan kingdom. It was discovered in 1908 by archaeologists, but not at all at this place in the center of Anapa, but during excavations near the village of Anapa, 8 kilometers from here. Then for many years it was abandoned and forgotten, there were several attempts to restore it at the place of discovery. And finally, in 2018, it was transported in parts and restored to its current location.
