What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Portomoinya Museum it is located in a stone building, an architectural monument built in the middle of the 19th century. Originally there was a laundry, hence the unusual name. The museum is part of the Marina Tsvetaeva memorial complex in Yelabuga because she visited this place while she lived in the house next door, across the street (today there is a House Museum in memory of Tsvetaeva).
Inside, the interior of a 19th-century dress shop with figures of washing women is recreated, and buckets, rockers, laundry baskets, vats, washing boards, rolling pins for rolling clothes and much more act as exhibits. Modern housewives will be quite interested to know how they washed more than 100 years ago, but you will not see a direct connection with the life and work of the poetess here. The exposition consists of only one laundry room, in which the tour is conducted, the cost of which is included in the entrance ticket. A visit with an excursion will take no more than 10 minutes.
