Overview and Is It Worth Visiting
Bely Waterfall (also called "Belye Vodopady") is located on a tributary of the same name to the Pshysh River in the vicinity of Arkhyz. Essentially, it's not one high drop, but a whole series of cascades and roaring rapids stretching for almost half a kilometer. The water itself is very light, almost white due to the churning and foam. The place is powerful and beautiful in its own way, but getting here is difficult, and the hiking route, in our opinion, is one of the most tedious and uninteresting in all of Arkhyz.
The main problem is the road and the trail. Almost the entire path (about 10 kilometers from Taulu Glade) goes through a forest without any scenery. You just walk along a dusty dirt road, constantly passed by tour jeeps and ATVs, leaving clouds of dust behind. No mountain views, no beautiful lookout points — just forest and potholes. For comparison, hikes to Bottomless Lake, Lake of Love, or Sofia Lakes are much more scenic.
Therefore, our advice: only go here if you've already seen all the main attractions of Arkhyz and have nowhere else to go. Don't plan a separate day specifically for Bely Waterfall — the disappointment from the dull road may outweigh the impressions of the waterfall. But if you're determined to see all the waterfalls in the area, or you're driving a powerful off-road vehicle and enjoy technical off-road driving, then you can add this spot to your itinerary.
Below we cover all the details: how to get there, where to leave your car, how long to walk, and what the prices for jeeping are. Also, watch our video — it shows the real road, the trail, and the waterfall itself, so you can make an informed decision.
🕐 Opening Hours
24/7, but it's better to go in the morning — there are many tour jeeps and it gets dusty in the afternoon.
💵 Entry Fee / Ticket Price
The waterfall itself is free. You only pay for transport if you decide not to walk: jeeping from Taulu Glade — from 1000 rubles per person (price depends on the group size). Renting an ATV or buggy for a self-drive — from 4000 rubles per vehicle. Check exact prices locally; they vary by season and the audacity of the vendors.
🚶 How to Get There
Bely Waterfall is located on a tributary of the Pshysh River (Bely Waterfall on the map). It is 16 kilometers from Arkhyz and 17 kilometers from the Romantik settlement. Important! The location marked on some maps for this waterfall is incorrect; our coordinates are accurate.
The nearest point you can reach in a regular car on the way to the waterfall is Taulu Glade (also known as Sofia Glade). Any car can get there. At the glade, you can leave your car and switch to a jeep or ATV, or walk from there.
From Taulu Glade to the waterfall is almost 10 kilometers. The road is very bad: rocks, ruts, fords across the river. A regular car (even with 4WD) has no business there — you'll definitely get stuck or puncture the oil pan. Only prepared off-road vehicles with high ground clearance and experience crossing water obstacles.
If you decide to walk, it's a 6–8 hour round trip from Taulu Glade (only 250 meters elevation gain, you walk almost horizontally, but the road is tedious). If you want to shorten the hike, you can try to carefully drive another 1–2 kilometers from the glade in your own car — we managed to drive 3.4 kilometers in a front-wheel-drive crossover. But the further you go, the harder it is to find a parking spot: the road winds between trees and rocks. Be sure to check the offline maps (Organic Maps, Maps.me) — they show all the forks and parking areas.
At the end of the dirt road, just before the waterfall, there's a parking area for jeeps and ATVs, and a cafe (you can have tea, get shashlik, buy souvenirs). From here, it's another 600 meters on foot with an elevation gain of 115 meters — a 20–30 minute steep trail along the river. The trail passes several rapids; many tourists don't go all the way to the top, stopping at the first beautiful cascades. But we recommend going to the end: the waterfall in the upper part is powerful and impressive, though without a single high drop — it's all cascades and churning foam.
