Zrykhsky waterfall is located far from most popular tourist routes of Dagestan far in the south of the Republic behind the village of Akhty. Only rare and the most inquisitive travelers get here, because it's really not worth going so far just for this waterfall. However, if you decide to visit the village of Akhty and its sights, you can include this waterfall in the program of the trip.
The Zrykhsky waterfall is formed by a mountain stream, one of the tributaries of the Samur River. Its height is about 20 meters, but, unfortunately, in the second half of summer and autumn you may not see it in all its glory, because the stream is drying up. But even without its beauties, a walk along the trail to it will be a small interesting adventure. It will take almost 3 kilometers to walk from a place that can be reached by car, while gaining a height of more than 300 meters. The ascent is smooth and accessible to everyone, even children go, but you will have to spend a lot of effort, and in terms of time there and back it is worth laying at least 3 hours. Take drinking water for a walk, a raincoat just in case, and be sure to wear comfortable sports or hiking shoes.

🚶 How to get there
The Zrykhsky waterfall is located near the village of Zrykh in the Akhtyn district, it is almost 140 kilometers from Derbent and 270 from Makhachkala (Zryhsky waterfall on the map). From Derbent you can get here and visit it during the day, even with the capture of other attractions of the Akhtyn district along the way. But, given the long distance, it is better to go here from Makhachkala with an overnight stay in the village of Akhty or somewhere nearby. By the way, there are good and quiet places to spend the night in a tent, if you suddenly fail to find accommodation in a guest house or hotel.
Normal asphalt leads to the village of Zrykh, only in a few places along the way there will be small sections of bad road, but in general it is easy to drive any car. Since this is a border area, border guards will check documents on the way to the Akhtyn district, so do not forget passports and birth certificates for children. But a pass to the border zone is not required to be issued here, since the places where the waterfall is located are excluded from this zone.
The trail to the waterfall in the village of Zrykh begins after the bridge over the Samur River. You can get to the bridge by car, but there is a very bad road to it, so it is better to leave the car on the main road in the village and go down to the bridge on foot. After crossing the bridge, you need to go a little to the left to the stream, and then follow the path along the stream a little less than 3 kilometers and more than 300 meters in height to the waterfall itself. This trail is not marked in any way, there are no signs, but the way will not cause any difficulties for tourists who know how to navigate.
