Today, the Kubachi factory of folk crafts in Kubachi village is an abandoned Soviet-built administrative building that is in a neglected state, and it is not so easy to recognize the main enterprise of the village in it. But despite this, it can be safely added to the list of local attractions.
Today the enterprise is not functioning, but since 1960 it has been one of the largest in Dagestan engaged in folk art crafts. Specialized in the production of metal jewelry, including silverware. Women's and men's jewelry, tableware, cold steel, cigarette cases, jugs, vases and caskets and much more were made here.
In recent years, problems have started at the plant - debts have appeared, equipment has become outdated, and the full-fledged production process has been temporarily suspended. In addition, the building itself requires repair. The government of Dagestan is making attempts to save the enterprise and revive its unique craftsmanship.
There is a small museum at the combine, or rather a sample room of the Kubachinsky combine. The museum's collection contains the best works of art by Kubachin masters. Among the exhibits, the most famous are jewels, such as the legendary saber of the ruler of Iran, Nadir Shah, a silver vase with images of the first leaders of the USSR and other valuables.
It is impossible to visit the plant and the museum located in one of the former industrial buildings on your own. The territory of the plant can be accessed only through the entrance and accompanied by a guide. There are no separate tours of the plant, but you can partially see it as part of a tour of the museum.
Since Kubachi is not often visited by tourists, it is not always possible to meet someone from the locals at the checkpoint. In this case, it is possible to contact any passerby or the owner of the shop and you will definitely find an escort.
