What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
One of the famous private souvenir shops and a museum in one person – the Kubachi Ethnodome can be found in the historical part of Derbent on the way to the sea. This is a two-storey building, on the ground floor of which there is a shop with original traditional goods and souvenirs at reasonable prices. Among the souvenirs there is a large selection of weapons, ceramic products, tableware, gift sets, magnets.
If you don't know, Kubachi is a Dagestani village that has long been one of the largest centers of traditional artistic metalworking in the Caucasus (mostly made of silver), as well as stone and wood carving. This village is a remarkable tourist destination that is worth visiting while traveling in Dagestan. But if such an opportunity does not present itself, then at least visit this ethnodome.
On the second floor, the owners, descendants of the jeweler from the village of Kubachi Huseyn Tushiyev, opened a museum in 2017, where a collection of Kubachi jewelry, traditional women's outfits, dishes and utensils was collected. Given that this is a private museum, you can visit it for an additional fee and only by prior arrangement with the owners of the house or by contacting the sellers.
