Description and is it worth a visit
Tenganan Pegringsingan or Pagersingan Village (Tenganan Pegringsingan or Pegeringsingan Village) is a traditional village museum of Balinese textiles and crafts. This is not a very well-known tourist destination, and mostly tourists and travelers come here who have already been everywhere in Bali and want to see something rare and away from the beaten tourist routes. We've been here too, and we definitely recommend visiting it. However, with one clarification: specially to go from the south of the island from Kuta, Sanur, Ubud, etc. here just to visit the village is not worth it, it's too far. At a minimum, you need to include a few more places along the way in the itinerary.
Tenganan Pegeringsingan, although called an open-air museum, is actually a residential village. It just carefully preserves the traditional way of life, ancient layout, architecture, and, of course, crafts. Its inhabitants call themselves the Bali-aga people and consider themselves the only indigenous Balinese. They even try to protect themselves from the influence of civilization, refuse to use smartphones and television.
The entrance to the village of Tenganan is free, they offer to leave donations at the entrance. Usually it is 30-100 thousand rupees, but it is at your discretion. If you pay donations, you will be "given" a guide who will tell you a lot of interesting things, but in English. If you do not speak English, it is better to come here with your Russian-speaking guide.
You can walk around the village on your own. It is small and consists of only one street. You can even go into the houses, some of them have signs inviting you to go inside and get acquainted with the crafts. Of course, for this, the owners will expect you to buy something from their products here, but this, again, is at your discretion. In general, it seemed to us that there is a calm and simple atmosphere in terms of trade, no one presses and does not "sell" unnecessary souvenirs.
One of the local "branded" crafts is the unique textile "double ikat". Unlike the familiar and well-known batik, when the pattern is applied with paints already on ready-made fabrics, double ikat is woven and a pattern is created on it from pre-colored threads, which is much more difficult. As the guides proudly declare, this is the only place in Indonesia where such textiles are made. Here you can buy handmade ready-made products: sarongs, scarves, book bookmarks. The truth is worth saying that the prices are not cheap, after all, it's really handmade, not Chinese crafts. For example, a bookmark for a book costs from 200,000 rupees (11.07 USD). Also here they make crafts from wood, leather, embossing, weaving.

🚶 How to get there
The village of Tenganan Pegringsingan is located in the east of Bali, 70 kilometers from Kuta, the airport and other tourist areas (village on the map). This is quite a long distance by local standards: it takes an hour and a half to drive by car, and you will spend at least 2 hours on a motorbike. It is much closer to go here from Ubud, Padang Bai, and Chandidas is very close. In any case, wherever you go, we advise you to include other places in your visit along the way. You can upload points of interest from our Bali map to yandex.navigator and use them to navigate and create a route.
If you do not rent a transport, then you can get here with a private guide or a ready-made excursion. It is easy to find private guides with their own car in Bali at a hotel or any travel agency. Yes, they will find you themselves and will offer trips along standard routes or as you want. The price is negotiable, for a day trip you can negotiate for $ 50 for the whole car, not for each person.
It is difficult to find ready-made group inexpensive excursions to Tenganan Pegringsingan, we have not come across such in street travel agencies. But you can check on the website trip.com, there are options there.
