Cambodia visa, customs regulations

Article and Section Navigation

Attention! Since October 2014, the cost of the fee for a visa to Cambodia has changed. Now the fee for a tourist visa is $ 30, a business visa is $ 35. The cost of registration of e-vasa is 37 dollars.

For trips to Cambodia Russian and CIS citizens need a visa. A visa is also required for transit through Cambodia.

There are several ways to obtain a visa: obtaining a visa in advance at the Embassy of Cambodia in Moscow; obtaining a visa on arrival; obtaining an electronic visa (E-Visa). Which way suits you better, you choose.

The period of stay on a tourist visa is 30 days. To extend the stay for another 30 days, it is possible to do this directly in Cambodia. To do this, you must contact the local Immigration office and pay a fee of $ 45.

If you are delayed more than the period stipulated by your visa, you will have to pay $5 for each day of delay.

For tourist purposes, when visiting Cambodia, the best option is to obtain a visa on arrival or an electronic visa. The advantage of an electronic visa is that its registration will allow you to keep a whole page in the passport free (the Cambodian visa on arrival takes up a whole page of the passport).

Obtaining a visa to Cambodia at the embassy

To obtain a tourist visa in advance at the embassy, you must submit the following documents to the consular department of the Embassy of Cambodia in Moscow:

  • a passport valid for at least another six months;
  • three passport-sized photos (taken no earlier than 6 months from the date of submission of documents);
  • a completed application form in Russian or English (issued at the consulate).

The deadline for consideration of applications is usually one day. The length of stay is indicated in the visa itself (usually 30 days).

The consular fee is $30, paid in rubles directly at the consulate when submitting documents. In case of refusal to issue a visa, the fee will not be refunded.

For a visa, you should contact the Embassy of Cambodia in Moscow. Documents are accepted from Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 13.00, ready-made visas are issued from 14.00 to 17.00.

Obtaining a visa to Cambodia on arrival

A tourist visa to Cambodia for a period of 30 days for CIS citizens can be issued directly upon arrival at airports Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or at most land and water border crossings with neighboring states of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam (see map of Cambodia with border crossings). When planning trips from Vietnam and Laos to Cambodia with the crossing of border crossings unpopular with tourists, ask about the possibility of obtaining a visa on arrival, since this is not possible at every crossing.

To apply for a visa, you must present the following documents:

  • passport valid for at least another six months;
  • one passport-sized photo;
  • if there is no photo, you must pay a "penalty" in the amount of $1-$3. After paying the "fine", you get a visa without any problems and continue on your way.

There is also an official rule according to which you have the right to refuse to issue a visa: if you do not have enough funds for the duration of your stay and/or return tickets. However, compliance with this rule is never checked, and even if a similar problem arises, it is easy to solve it with the help of "fines" of a few dollars.

The visa fee is $30 and is paid in dollars.

Visa processing takes no more than 5-20 minutes, depending on the number of tourists.

At international airports, you can get a "business visa" for a longer stay (from 3 to 12 months). In this case, the visa fee ranges from $35 to $285 (depending on the length of stay).

When crossing the border on a tourist or international bus or by boat on the water, you don't have to worry about the visa procedure: firstly, such buses always go through border crossings, where it is possible to obtain a visa on arrival; and secondly, there is usually a person on the bus or boat who offers his services for registration for The reward is $2-$5. Of course, you can do everything yourself, or you can just give him passports, photos and $30 + reward, and he will do everything for you, and then tell you where to go and what to do next. There were no problems with this method of obtaining a visa, everything is legal and without surprises.

Attention! Sometimes representatives of the border guard service require a medical card when applying for a visa, which is illegal. There is information that at the land borders, in the absence of a medical card, they give out some pills and require 200 riels. Depending on the situation, the requirements can either be ignored, or if the requirements of the border guards begin to go beyond the correct ones, pay a small amount (usually no more than $ 5-10) as "fines" into the hands of the customs officer.

This is what a real border crossing in Aranyaprateh looks like

Attention! A special situation arises when obtaining a visa at the border crossing from Aranyaprathet (Thailand) to Poipet (Cambodia). This is the most popular crossing to get from Thailand to Siem Reap.

There is a whole network of scammers operating not far from the border crossing, in which, apparently, border crossing officials, local tuk-tukers (who pick up tourists from the bus station and other places and allegedly take them to the border crossing) and many others are involved. They offer to apply for a visa to Cambodia at the office, which is issued for the border crossing, creating an appropriate business environment there. The cost of a visa in this office is on average $ 60 (in August 2012). Despite the fact that the visa is not real, due to the fact that officials are involved in issuing it, tourists who receive it usually get to Cambodia unhindered by it, overpaying $ 40 of the real cost at the border.

The fraudulent office differs from the border crossing in the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. At this crossing, you first have to go through the Thai side and get a stamp about leaving Thailand, and only then reach the place where the real visa is issued for $ 30.

But that's not all. Border guards sometimes demand 1,500 baht or $ 40 for a visa, which is also a divorce. Refuse to pay for a visa at an inflated price and stand your ground, paying only $ 30.

Obtaining an electronic visa to Cambodia via the Internet

It is possible to apply for a visa to Cambodia via the Internet directly on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia. With electronic visas, it is possible to enter through most border crossings, but not all. It is definitely possible to enter through:
