If you ask the residents of the city where the Heritage Museum is located, you will most likely hear that they do not know about this. And very in vain. This museum is a real find for the dull tourist face of the city, and guests of Togliatti and locals are simply obliged to visit it. The basis of the museum was a log house built at the beginning of the last century, once owned by the family of shoemaker Starikov. It was the most ordinary poor working family living in the city of Stavropol on the Volga, which was flooded in the 50s of the last century to create the Zhiguli reservoir, and then renamed Togliatti. This house was moved one of the first, and to date the only one preserved. Inside the house, the atmosphere of that time is recreated, as if family members had just gone out for a short time. Many of the exhibits are original, belonged to the Starikov family. The museum still maintains ties with the descendants of the family, who now live in other cities and countries.
The exposition itself is not very large, but the visit provides excursion support, with which a visit to the museum becomes interesting and informative. Museum workers are very passionate people, ready to share a story about every object in the house with pleasure. The tour also includes watching a 10-minute film about the history of Stavropol on the Volga and moving the city to a new place.
In addition to the Old People's house, the museum also includes a second house, a larger former cinema. It is right across the street and visitors are also taken to it. Administrative offices are located there, but part is used as an exhibition, called the "attic". It recreates the attic room, which stores all sorts of unnecessary old things of the Soviet and pre-Soviet period, which used to be stored in attics. There are toys, dishes, musical instruments and other "junk" that many visitors of the older generation will remember from their childhood, and will be happy to listen to another heartfelt story of the guides.
The museum can be visited with or without guided tours. We recommend guided tours, for which it is better to call the museum in advance and clarify or agree on the start time of the Tour, since sometimes the guide may be busy with another group. The tour is held even for the 1st person. The museum also hosts exciting workshops for children on making dolls by appointment.
🕐 Working hours: Tuesday-Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, Wednesday from 10:00 to 21:00, Monday-closed. The last Friday of the month is a sanitary day. It is better to make an appointment in advance by Phone +7 (8482) 487302, since the visit involves a tour.
