General information, recreation
Bor (Bor) - the city next to Nizhny Novgorod on the opposite (Left) Bank of the Volga River is considered a satellite city of Nizhny Novgorod (Bor on the map. It is well connected by transport with the center of Nizhny Novgorod: there is a cable car (it is a kind of tourist attraction), buses and minibuses run, automobile bridges over the Volga have been built.
The population of Bora, together with its villages, is less than 80 thousand people, while it is one of the largest cities in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Industry and transport are developed in Bor, and it can also be interesting for tourists visiting Nizhny Novgorod.
A bit of history
Bor is an ancient settlement. Long before the formation of the village of Bor in the XIV century and the intensive settlement of the modern territory of the city in the XVII century, there were several separate villages and settlements, and even earlier lived Finno-Ugric tribes. In the XIX century, industry and shipbuilding began to develop actively here, an even greater impetus to development was received with the advent of Soviet power. As a result, the working industrial village only in 1938 received the status of a city. Unfortunately, almost nothing remains of the rich and long history of the city, but only a few ancient temples and private households of traditional architecture built at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries.
Holidays in the city of Bor
Bor can not be called an attractive place for tourists, so it is visited only in passing in the form of a separate attraction during a holiday in Nizhny Novgorod. Interesting for tourists, the historical part of the city with several attractions is very compact, and you can see it all in half a day. Therefore, it makes no sense to consider Bor as a separate tourist place, where it is worth coming and staying for a few days, we would not recommend: there will simply be nothing to do. Moreover, even the options for accommodation for tourists here can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
Hotel search and booking systems do not even allocate Bor as a separate city, so to search for accommodation, you need to set Nizhny Novgorod in the search, and then select hotels on the map in the right place. We advise you to search and book hotels on these sites:
- 🛌 search hotels in Nizhny Novgorod on Yandex.travel
- 🛌 Search hotels on Ostrovok.ru
- 🛌 Search for affordable housing in Nizhny Novgorod on Sutochno.ru
However, do not assume that Bor is almost a village. At the confluence of International and Pushkin streets there is a conditional city center with large shopping centers, a market, restaurants and cafes. There are even World chain fast food restaurants where you can drop by while walking around the sights.
How to get to Bor
Since in the city of Bor tourists usually rarely stop for the night, it is best to visit it in the form of a one-day excursion tourist trip from Nizhny Novgorod.
