Emine-Bair-Koba Cave, Crimea
The cave

On the Chatyr-Dag mountain plateau in Crimea, in addition to the caves that are popular and accessible to a wide range of tourists Emine-Bair-Khosar (mammoth) and Marble cave is another one, accessible not only for traditional tourist routes, but also as a training ground for athletes. If you have experience or you are ready to try yourself not just as a tourist walking in a cave along equipped trails and railings, you can go to Emine-Bair-Koba. It is also known as the "Three-Eyed" cave, since the entrance to it opens with three holes.

Emine-Bair-Koba is divided into two sections: excursion and sports.

  • Excursion route is designed for excursion groups and has a length of 70 meters, equipped with concrete stairs, platforms, metal railings. The sports area has a length of 150 meters, and is used for training athletes-cavers. It is equipped only with inclined rope railings on inclined sections, and steel ladders on vertical ones. Lighting on the sports route is installed every 20 meters.
  • Sports route (extreme route) is much more difficult and requires special equipment and good physical shape. To complete the sports route, groups of up to 10 people are formed, accompanied by two instructors. Participants must wear special clothing (boots and overalls), protective mine helmets with individual headlamps and self-insurance. All necessary equipment can be rented when passing the extreme route.

🕐 Working hours: daily from 08:00 to 18:00, seven days a week. In fact, since the cave is unpopular, it is necessary to coordinate a visit in advance by phone +79789696060.

💵 Entrance fee / tickets price: short route-300 rubles, extreme route-1000 rubles.

🚶 How to get there: Emine-Bair-Koba is located between Simferopol and Alushta on the plateau of the Chatyr-Dag mountain range (Emine-Bair-Koba on the map). You can get here only on your own transport or as part of an organized excursion. But excursions here are sold quite rarely, usually tourists are offered more popular Mammoth and Marble Caves. Therefore, visiting Emine-Bair-Koba is most often done on your own transport.

The road to the cave leads through the village of marble, and this is the only way to the Chatyr-Dag plateau for cars. The road is poorly equipped with signs, so it is better to use the Navigator. After the village of marble, the asphalt road ends, and a winding steep climb begins up a dirt and rocky road. It is generally not so bad and you can drive on it even in the rain, but you have to move very slowly and carefully. 9 kilometers after the village will take about half an hour. After Marble it is impossible to get lost, the road and the signs lead in the same direction, and you need to follow the signs to the cave Emine-Bair-Hosar. When you see the sign to the left in the direction of parking directly at the cave Emine-Bair-Khosar, you do not need to turn there, but you should drive another 300 meters, and you will get to Emine-Bair-Koba. If you drive further along the road for another kilometer, you will get to the onikstur speleotourism camp, where you can spend the night in your room or tent (http://www.onixtour.com.ua). Prices in the camp are very affordable.
