Railway station in Derbent

Railway station in Derbent is one of the most beautiful in Russia and the Caucasus. The building stands out from the surrounding buildings with its unusual architecture. It is simply impossible to pass by and not admire. This operating transport facility is located in the city center.

The station was built in 1899, and about a year before that the first steam locomotive arrived here. On the ground floor of the station there are ticket offices, a waiting room, luggage storage, a toilet room, ATMs and a museum. Among other similar buildings, this station will be distinguished by unusual interior decoration of the walls and ceiling with simple, but bright and colorful patterns. Agree, in modern times you can not see this everywhere, but here is an ordinary station… You can see this beauty by entering the station, and since the facility is operational, you will first have to go through the inspection point that stands at the entrance.

A remarkable fact! This railway station was visited by Emperor Nicholas II in 1914. He dined here on boiled potatoes with herring.

Here, on the territory of the 1st floor in one of the former waiting rooms in July 2017, the Museum of Railway History or the Room of Labor and Military Glory of the Derbent railway junction was organized. By visiting it you will learn about the history of the railway. There are more than 200 exhibits on display in the spacious hall, ranging from various units to photographs. Admission is free, if desired, you can book an excursion, but you need to do it in advance by contacting the information desk or by calling +79604174800.

In addition, on the forecourt, where the platforms are located, there is an old steam locomotive of the "L" series, which serves as a symbol of the local railway junction and is its peer.
