What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Within The Old City of Derbent there is another historical and architectural monument – the Kirkhlyar Mosque or Abulfazil-Abbas mosque. It is a small stone mosque with one dome without a minaret.
The building dates back to 1627. During the period from the XVII to the XIX century, it was rebuilt and reconstructed more than once. This is clearly visible if you look closely at the mills, sometimes lined with different bricks. Its internal content with a carved stone mihrab in the form of a floral ornament is also interesting.
The name of the Kyrkhlyar mosque comes from the nearby Kyrkhlyar-Kapy gate, belonging to the fortress wall, its northern part.
