General information
Feodosiya - a small town on the southeastern coast of the Crimean Peninsula, washed by the waters of the Feodosia Bay Of The Black Sea, a popular and developed tourist resort (Feodosia on the map of Crimea. The population of the city is slightly more than 100 thousand people.
In addition to the city of Feodosia itself, it is also customary to allocate greater Feodosia (urban district), which includes 18 settlements, including other popular resorts: Koktebel, Primorskiy, Beregovoe, Ordzhonikidze, Kurortnoye, etc. All settlements within Greater Feodosia are connected by suburban bus service.
Feodosia attracts tourists primarily with its beaches. This is one of the few beach resorts on the southern coast of Crimea, where the coast is dotted not with pebbles, but with sand. True, sand on the shore is not everywhere: in the very center of the city there is a pebble City Beach, further from the center to the South pebbles are interspersed with Sandy, but really long sandy beaches with golden sand begin outside the city, and stretch for 10 kilometers along the coast to the villages of Beregovoye and Primorsky. In addition to beaches, Feodosia pleases tourists with excellent infrastructure. There are a lot of hotels and a large selection of housing for rent, shops and markets at every turn, there is a large supermarket and several shopping centers. There will be no problems with food, there are a lot of cafes, canteens and eateries in the center. Transport in the city is represented by a modest number of city bus services, but in most cases this is enough.
Entertainment in Feodosia abound. There is a whole tourist area along Galeriynaya Street, along the paratroopers embankment and on Aivazovsky Street. All these are pedestrian areas, and all kinds of tourist entertainment are concentrated on them, ranging from souvenir shops to children's attractions. Feodosia cannot be called the capital of night entertainment, but several nightclubs and late-night bars can be found on the mentioned pedestrian streets, as well as on General Gorbachev Street. And of course, on the beaches there is a whole range of water activities. The Jubilee Park has a lot of children's entertainment.
Feodosia has a very rich history. The city was founded in the 6th century BC by Greek colonists. After that, the city many times passed under the rule of various nationalities, kingdoms and empires, and in the 4th century was completely destroyed by the Huns. In the Middle Ages, under the leadership of the Genoese, it was called Kaffa, and at that time the city even surpassed Constantinople in size. Feodosia passed to Russia in 1771, when Russian troops took the city by storm.
Unfortunately, few monuments of ancient history have survived to this day. The most striking of them is the Medieval Genoese fortress of Kafa.
Attractions in Feodosia are also not a few. It will take more than one day to see interesting places, including museums, historical sights, monuments. The two main attractions of Feodosia-the Aivazovsky Museum and the ancient Genoese fortress Kaffa are often decisive for tourists when choosing Feodosia as the main holiday destination in the Crimea.
