What to Expect and Is It Worth Visiting
Beybars Mosque is considered the oldest in Crimea, but today only ruins remain of it. This is not a functioning mosque, but an archaeological site. It was built around 1287 at the expense of the Egyptian Sultan Baybars, who wanted to perpetuate his name in this way and "made" himself such a gift for his next birthday. However, we have not been able to establish any historical facts confirming its presence in the Old Crimea.
To date, only the outer walls of the mosque have remained. Despite the fact that the place is an architectural monument, the traces of maintaining the remains of an ancient building are not very noticeable, grass and shrubs grow inside. You can view the attraction only from the outside by looking inside through a metal mesh. Otherwise, you won't be able to see any interesting details, because none of this has been preserved, so if you don't have enough time for all the sights of the Old Crimea, we advise you to visit another mosque first Khan Uzbek, which has been preserved much better, is in operation and is being restored.
