Abandoned Baslay Hot Springs / Baslay Hot Springs

Description and is it worth a visit

Baslay Hot Springs (Baslay Hot Springs, or Baslay Hot Springs) were once paid and well equipped for taking hot therapeutic baths in natural hot water from the bowels Talinis mountains. But after the typhoon, this place was abandoned, and not even all the locals know about its existence, and can tell you that the springs are no more. In fact, they exist, and they can be visited completely free of charge. True, there is one thing: the place of Hot Springs is really unfortunate and dangerous. They are located on the mountainside in a place where very often there are strong winds that easily break trees. This may be why the sources have not been recovered, Be careful here.

From the parking lot to the springs you will have to walk along the equipped concrete path, bridge, and steps down for 15 minutes. The trail is generally in good condition, but in places the railings are destroyed by fallen trees. When you reach the stream, the equipped trail will end (the bridges are destroyed), and you will need to go another 200 meters upstream, but be careful, the water is very hot. So you will reach several preserved bathing baths. They are filled literally with boiling water from one stream, and diluted with cold water from another stream. Pools and streams are connected, and to make a suitable temperature for bathing, you will have to independently redirect the flows between different bathrooms using wooden plugs (see photo).

On the way here, by the way, you can visit another "secret" place-Malmag waterfall. The turn and the pointer to it is on the road a couple of kilometers before the springs, and then a little walk. The waterfall is formed from the same stream from which the Hot Springs appeared, just downstream. The waterfall itself is quite small, but you can walk along the channel, there are many interesting stone formations.

🚶 How to get there

You can only get to the springs by rented transport or taxi, go by Navigator, from the center of Dumaguete 25 kilometers (sources on the map). The road leads good, asphalt through the villages. In the place marked on our map, there is a cafe and a platform where you can leave transport. You can leave it for free, sometimes the local kids ask for parking 10-50 pesos, as you bargain. From the parking lot, a concrete path to the Springs goes into the forest and down the mountainside.
