Description and is it worth a visit
Mount Talinis - the second highest on Negros Island after the volcano Canlaon (Canlaon), rises to 1903 meters 20 kilometers from the city. A hiking trail leads to the summit, which can be overcome during a one-day or two-day hiking/trekking tour. On the route you can visit Twin Falls, Mountain Lakes Lake Yagumyum and Lake Nailig, a source of hot volcanic water, and many more interesting things.
Theoretically, experienced tourists in good shape can climb and descend the mountain during the day and on their own, for which from the starting point to the top you need to overcome 8 kilometers and 1200 meters in height, and back. But in this case, you will not have time to visit the mentioned attractions, since they are located a little away from the main route. Therefore, it is recommended to climb with an overnight stay in a camp near the summit, and as part of a tourist group. To do this, you can purchase a tour (offered in travel agencies and hotels, the cost depends on the size of the group and conditions), join local tour groups (you can find and agree with them on the Dumaguete forums in advance). It is even easier, but at your own risk, to collect the equipment yourself, start the climb, and join the local tourists on the way.
🕐 Working hours
Around the clock, it is better to start climbing at dawn at 5-6 in the morning.
💵Entrance fee / ticket price
Free, tours from 1000 pesos (16.19 USD, see Philippine currency and exchange rate).
🚶 How to get there
The summit is 20 kilometers from the center Dumaguete (mountain on the map).
There are several routes to the mountain, but the most "trampled" are two:
- From the village of Valencia from Casaroro falls (Valencia on the map). This is the most popular and gentle route, and all the attractions are on it. The Walking part starts from the parking lot Casaroro falls. For an early start, it is convenient to stop at Harold's Ecolodge, from where you can walk to the beginning of the trail on asphalt.
- From Dauin (Dauin on the map). It is a shorter but steeper climb. Sometimes it is climbed, but descended through Valencia.
