Officially and safely exchanging cryptocurrency for cash ringgit in Malaysia is not possible. Although cryptocurrency is not banned in the country, there are no direct legal channels for tourists to convert it into fiat money.

Online, there are illegal exchange schemes through Telegram chats, private exchangers, or darknet websites. However, the risk of being scammed in such transactions is extremely high. Scammers use various schemes, for example:

  • They ask to transfer cryptocurrency to "verify wallet cleanliness" (AML) and disappear.
  • They offer a meeting with a courier who, after receiving the transfer, pretends to know nothing and leaves with the cash.
  • They provide fake recommendations in tourist chats from supposedly verified individuals.

Whether it's worth risking your funds is up to you. It is safer and easier to bring traditional currency (dollars, euros) to Malaysia or use bank cards where possible.
