Where is the best place to exchange currency in Kuala Lumpur?

The most profitable place to exchange currency in Kuala Lumpur, and in all of Malaysia, is the Mid Valley Megamall shopping center. Here on the ground floor (GF) there are several exchange offices (MaxMoney, My Money Master, MV Forex, and others) that offer a rate very close to the market rateβthe difference is only fractions of a percent.
Here are a few important nuances:
- Bring your passport. For cash exchange, an original document is required almost everywhere.
- Be prepared for queues. Due to the favorable rate, exchange offices in Mid Valley often have queues, especially in the evening. Arrive early, as they close around 8:00 PM.
- Compare rates. Walk around all the exchange offices in the mall, as rates may vary slightly.
The second good place is exchange offices in the Little India area on Jalan Masjid India street (not to be confused with the Brickfields area). The rate here is also very attractive.
But at Kuala Lumpur Airport (KLIA), it's not worth exchanging a lot of money. The rate there is extremely unfavorable, the spread (difference between buying and selling) can reach 18%! Exchange minimallyβonly for transport to the city.
