Ille cave and Dewil Valley is so far a little–visited and little-known natural attraction in the vicinity of El Nido, and clearly an underestimated place that is lost in the shadow of popular excursions to the islands from El Nido, but definitely worth a visit.
A network of caves filled with stalactites, stalagmites, bats and bizarre drawings left by nature is located in the bowels of a low mountain that rises like a tower in the middle of the green Devil Valley. A lot of artifacts and evidence have been discovered here, confirming that the island of Palawan was inhabited already 12 thousand years ago.
The caves are not equipped with lighting, paths and bridges, but it is quite comfortable to visit it. You don't have to climb over rocks, squeeze into manholes and wander in the dark. The visit takes place with a tour guide, a researcher and a cave researcher, who enthusiastically and in detail tells about the origin of the cave and the history of the island of Palawan. Everything is very interesting and informative, however, only in English. For a walk around the cave, you will be given a helmet and a headlamp, but if you have your own, we advise you to take it as well, since the lanterns are not very bright and will not allow you to take acceptable photos. It is not necessary to wear warm clothes, as for visiting other, deeper caves, inside there is a comfortable temperature.
In addition to exploring the cave, you will also visit a mini-museum consisting of one hall and a dozen exhibits found in the cave and during excavations in its surroundings. Well, if you want, you can go for a walk to the top of the mountain after the cave, from where you can enjoy stunning views of the surroundings.

Visiting the caves with a guide costs 350 pesos per group (5.67 USD, see the currency of the Philippines and its exchange rate), and this price is the same for one person or a group of several people. Accompanying a guide, helmets with a headlamp and a visit to the museum are included in this price. Hiking to the top of the mountain is charged an additional 200 pesos per person (3.24 USD).
🚶 How to get there
The Ille Caves are located in the north of Palawan, 22 kilometers from El Nido (caves on the map). Public transport does not go here and group excursions are not carried. Therefore, you will have to get there by rented transport (motorbikes in El Nido from 400 pesos), or hire a tricycle / taxi for the trip, which will cost from 1000 pesos. There is normal asphalt leading to the caves, but part of the road on the way from El Nido is unpaved, but well passable on any car or motorcycle.
