Answer (changed )

The commission for withdrawing cash from a Russian UnionPay card in Malaysia depends on the bank that issued the card and the currency of the account. In 2026, only cards from Rosselkhozbank (RSHB) and the Asia-Pacific Bank (ATB) are working. Cards from other banks, such as Gazprombank or Tinkoff, no longer work.

Here are the main tariffs for the most popular card — RSHB "Svoya Karta Plus":

Commissions for withdrawing cash from UnionPay cards in Malaysia
Card type Withdrawal commission Minimum commission When you can withdraw without commission
Yuan card (CNY) 4% of the amount 70 yuan If the card turnover for the previous month is from 30,000 rubles
Ruble card (RUB) 1.5% of the amount 250 rubles If the card turnover for the previous month is from 30,000 rubles

For example, if you withdraw 1,000 ringgit (about 20,000 rubles) from a ruble card, the commission will be 300 rubles. If you withdraw from a yuan card — 4% of the amount in yuan, which can be more noticeable.

Important! Malaysian ATMs themselves (especially MayBank and CIMB) do not charge an additional commission for withdrawals. However, Euronet ATMs, on the contrary, often add their own commission, so it is better to avoid them.

How to minimize losses:

  • Try to pay for purchases directly with the card — no commission is charged for this.
  • If you withdraw cash, do it in large amounts (from 1,000 ringgit at a time) to make the commission less noticeable.
  • Use MayBank or CIMB ATMs — they do not charge additional fees.
  • If possible, top up your yuan card through a brokerage account — this is more profitable than buying yuan at a bank.
