In the vicinity of Hue, there are several imperial tombs, but the most popular and interesting for tourists are three: Minh Mang, Tu Duc, and Khai Dinh. The choice depends on your preferences:

  • Minh Mang Tomb: Classic, harmonious, and peaceful. A large area with pavilions and Moon Lake, few tourists. Ideal for those who appreciate traditional Vietnamese architecture and a serene atmosphere.
  • Tu Duc Tomb: The largest in area. Resembles a huge park with a lake, pavilions, and even ruins. The emperor used it as a country residence during his lifetime. You can spend a lot of time here, walking along shady alleys.
  • Khai Dinh Tomb: A completely different aesthetic! This monumental structure on a mountainside combines Vietnamese and European features, with an abundance of mosaics, ceramics, and sculptures. Inside, the luxurious hall with a bronze statue of the emperor is impressive.

If you have limited time and are buying a combined ticket for 2 tombs, we advise choosing the Tu Duc and Minh Mang tombs. They give a complete idea of the classic imperial tombs of Vietnam. The Khai Dinh Tomb is also very impressive, but it is more of a unique exception.
