Kuala Lumpur is a city best explored on foot. Here are several of the most interesting and atmospheric streets that you should definitely include in your itinerary:
- Petaling Street in Chinatown. This is not just a street, but an entire covered open-air market. There is constant hustle and bustle here, with vendors selling souvenirs, knockoffs, and street food. A very colorful place, especially in the evening.
- Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang. The main gastronomic street of the city. In the evening, it turns into a continuous row of street cafes where you can try seafood, grilled meat, and local delicacies. Be sure to come here hungry.
- Jalan Sultan in Chinatown. Another street known for its street food. Here you will find the famous Lai Foong Lala Noodles cafe, recognized by the Michelin guide. The atmosphere here is more authentic and less touristy than on Alor.
- Masjid India Street in Little India. Walking along this street, you feel as if you have been transported to India. There are many jewelry stores, currency exchange offices (with very good rates), and cafes with aromatic spices and sweets.
- Bukit Bintang. This is not one street but an entire district, but the main street here is Jalan Bukit Bintang. It is the center of nightlife and shopping, where all the major shopping malls, bars, and restaurants are located.
