Getting from Cebu City to Oslob on your own by bus is the most budget-friendly option. Here is a step-by-step guide:

  1. Get to the Cebu South Bus Terminal. It is the starting point for all trips to the south of the island.
  2. Find a bus to Bato that goes via Oslob. It's important to confirm the route, as there are trips to Bato that bypass Oslob. Ask the driver or conductor "Whale shark" or "Tan-awan".
  3. Board the bus. Departures are approximately every 30 minutes from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. The journey takes 3-4 hours. The fare is from 270 pesos.
  4. Get off not in Oslob, but in the village of Tan-awan. Inform the driver that you are going to the whale sharks. The stop is right at the sign for the Briefing Centre. From the stop to the centre is a few minutes' walk.

Key tip: To ensure you make it in time for swimming (it operates from 6:00 to 12:00), leave as early as possible. It's best to be at the bus terminal by 5 a.m. Then by 9 a.m. you will be there, have time to swim with the sharks, and return to Cebu on the same day.

A more convenient but expensive option is to buy a ready-made tour with transfer from a street travel agency or hotel in Cebu. Prices for such tours start from 3500 pesos per person.
