Can I show an IIS or brokerage account instead of a bank statement for a Thailand visa?

No, an IIS, brokerage or investment account, crypto wallet screenshots, as well as certificates of the value of real estate and other property are not suitable for a Thailand visa. The consulate only accepts confirmation of real free money that you can legally dispose of directly during your trip. Stocks, bonds, fund units and funds frozen in an IIS are not considered such money, even if the total amount there is impressive.
The consul's logic is simple: he needs to make sure that the tourist has liquid money to pay for accommodation, food and travel around the country. A securities portfolio cannot be quickly shown at the border or withdrawn from an ATM in Bangkok, so such statements are simply not considered as financial confirmation.

What will work instead of an IIS and a brokerage account:
- A statement from a regular bank account or debit card — the most reliable option. The currency is not critical; any is accepted and converted at the current exchange rate.
- A certificate of account balance on a current or savings account, issued in English.
- The amount must be at least the equivalent of 20,000 baht per person or 40,000 baht per family. Show it with a margin — the more money in the account, the more calmly the application is viewed.
- If a child has their own account (T-Bank and Alfa-Bank open them from age 14), their statement will also work.
The good news is that getting the required statement is now very easy and mostly free. In the apps and online banking of Alfa-Bank, T-Bank and Sberbank there is a ready-made "visa statement" function — it is generated instantly and immediately in English. Some banks, for example VTB and RSHB, do not have such an online function and send the client to a branch for a paid certificate (about 200 rubles).
Important! Not only brokerage and investment accounts are unsuitable, but also crypto wallet screenshots, certificates of the value of real estate, a car and other property. For the consul, it is fundamentally important to see not the presence of assets, but real free funds with which you can pay for your stay in Thailand.
Show not just the balance on the date of submission, but a statement with fund movements over the last 3 months. This noticeably increases trust in the application. If you want to strengthen your position, add real ticket bookings to the statement — for example, via Trip.com (accepts Russian cards) or via 12go.asia for ground transport and ferries, and a paid hotel booking.
If you have already invested in investments and do not want to withdraw money for the sake of a certificate, the easiest way out is to transfer the required amount to a regular debit account or card in advance and keep it there for at least a couple of weeks before submitting. Then the statement will look natural, and not like a one-time top-up before a visit to the consulate.
A refusal on financial grounds does not cancel a re-application: the visa fee is not refunded, but the application can be sent again with a normal statement, preferably to a different consulate.
