From Bangkok to Chiang Rai, you can travel by plane, bus, or a combined route with a train. This is the fastest and most convenient way, especially if you want to save time. Direct flights operate from both Bangkok airports—Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK). The flight time is about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Ticket prices start from 1600-2000 baht (approximately $45-55) one way if booked in advance.

If the budget is limited, the optimal option is a night bus. Flights depart from Mo Chit Bus Terminal (Northern Bus Terminal) several times a day, including comfortable VIP buses with reclining seats. The trip takes approximately 10-12 hours, and a ticket costs from 600 to 900 baht. This is an excellent way to save on one night in a hotel.

The third option is a train. There is no direct railway connection to Chiang Rai, but you can take a train to Chiang Mai (the journey from Bangkok takes 10-13 hours), and then transfer to a bus to Chiang Rai (another 3-4 hours on the road). This is the longest but also the most scenic route, allowing you to see the nature of northern Thailand.

By plane to Chiang Rai

Tip: It is convenient to search and book plane tickets on Russian aggregators that accept Mir cards, for example, on Aviasales or Trip.com. For buses, it is better to buy tickets directly at Mo Chit station the day before the trip to guarantee a seat.
