How to get around Kanchanaburi city itself?

Kanchanaburi city is quite compact, especially its tourist part. The main hotels and attractions are concentrated along Maenamkwai Road, and most of them can be easily reached on foot in a maximum of 20 minutes.
If you need to travel, here are the main types of local transport:
- Motorcycle taxi: The most common option. A ride within the city costs no more than 50 baht.
- Songthaew (shared taxi): Yellow and white ones run along a fixed route along the main Saengchuto Road. The fare is only 10 baht. Very convenient to get from the bus station to the railway station area or the bridge.
- Tuk-tuks and cycle rickshaws: Less common and more expensive than motorcycle taxis.
- Bicycle or motorbike rental: For independence, you can rent a bicycle (from 50 baht/day) or a scooter (from 150-300 baht/day).
If you rent a motorbike, remember: standard tourist insurance does not cover motorcycle riding. A special option is needed. Also, always wear a helmetβboth for safety and to avoid a fine.
For a romantic stroll, you can hire a longtail boat near the bridge (from 800 baht for 1.5 hours for a group).
