When choosing insurance for Thailand, you should look not only at the price but also at the key coverage parameters. Here are the main points to pay attention to so that the policy really protects you:

  • Insurance amount: For Thailand, we recommend a minimum of $50,000. Healthcare here is expensive, and a serious operation or long hospitalization can easily "eat up" such an amount.
  • "Active recreation" and "Motorcycle riding" options: Be sure to add these options if you plan any activity, from diving to renting a scooter. Without them, the policy is practically useless for most tourists.
  • COVID-19 coverage: Make sure that coronavirus treatment is included in the coverage. In most modern policies, this is already standard, but it's better to check.
  • Deductible: Policies with a deductible (for example, you pay the first $50 of treatment yourself) are cheaper. For a calm beach vacation, you can take one with a deductible; for an active one, it's better without it.
  • Additional risks: Check if flight delays, loss of luggage and documents, and legal assistance are covered.

Important! Read carefully what exactly is included in the "active recreation" option. In some insurance policies, it's only hiking; in others, it's diving and extreme sports. For riding a motorbike, a separate mark and having an international category "A" license are often required. Without a license, no insurance will cover the damage.
