If the main internet package on your Prepaid SIM card in Thailand runs out, you can purchase an additional data package (Prepaid add-on) or switch to a more suitable tariff. This is easily done through your operator's mobile app.

Here are step-by-step options:

  1. Buy an Add-on internet package: In the AIS (MyAIS), Dtac, or TrueID (TrueMove H) apps, there is a section with additional services (Add-ons). There, you can choose an extra gigabyte package for 1, 3, or 7 days for a small fee. The cost is deducted from the main card balance.
  2. Change the main tariff: If you realize that the current tariff is not suitable for you, in the same app, you can select and activate a new tariff plan that will take effect after the current one expires. For example, switch from a 7-day tariff to a 30-day tariff with a larger data volume.
  3. Top up your balance and use the internet at standard rates: If you don't buy packages, after exhausting the main data, the internet usually doesn't disconnect completely but switches to a very low speed (e.g., 384 Kbps), which is enough for messengers and maps. Or it starts deducting money from the balance at the tariff rate (e.g., 2 baht per 1 MB with AIS), which can quickly deplete the account.

Tip: To avoid being without internet at an inconvenient moment, install the operator's app immediately after purchasing the SIM card. There, you can track the remaining data, balance, and quickly respond when the gigabytes are running low.

If you can't figure out the app, you can try using USSD commands (they are usually listed in the SIM card instructions) or call the operator's service number (English will be required).
