Ko Lipe is a paradise but hard-to-reach island. To ensure a smooth trip, here are the main things to know and prepare for:
- You can only get there by water. There is no airport on the island. Everyone arrives by ferry, and disembarkation involves transferring to small long-tail boats at a floating pier.
- Keep your documents and money with you. Do not check valuable items in luggage when transferring from the ferry to the boat. On the route from Malaysia, your passport may be temporarily taken.
- It's very cold on the ferry. The air conditioners run at full power. Bring a warm sweater, pants, and even a blanket or jacket.
- Fill out electronic forms in advance. If traveling from Malaysia, be sure to fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before the trip. There will be no internet for this at the border.
- Have cash. Entry to the national park (200 baht) is paid only in cash, preferably without change. There is one ATM at the pier, it may not work, and the withdrawal fee is high (220 baht + your bank's commission).
- Keep all receipts and bookings. Keep the receipt for park entry paymentβit may be requested. Also, have hotel and ticket booking confirmations on your phone.
- Take care of seasickness. If you get seasick, take pills in advance. The crossing can be rough.
