It is best to take US dollars (USD) or euros (EUR) with you to Egypt. There will be no problems with these currencies: they are easy to exchange almost everywhere, and in many tourist places (hotels, on excursions, markets) you can pay with them directly, without exchanging for pounds.
Key nuance regarding dollars: try to take bills from new years of issue (after 2006). Dollars issued before 2001 are accepted very reluctantly in Egypt, and it will be very difficult to exchange them. When receiving currency at a bank at home, immediately clarify the year of issue.
As for Russian rubles, bringing them for exchange or payments does not make much sense. Rubles can only be exchanged in resort areas with private money changers or other tourists, but the rate will be very unfavorable due to the high volatility of the ruble. Rubles are only suitable as a backup option in an emergency.
