The national currency of Malaysia is called ringgit (ringgit), with the international designation being RM or MYR. In colloquial speech, it is sometimes still referred to as the "Malaysian dollar." One ringgit is divided into 100 sen.
In circulation, there are banknotes with denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 ringgit from various years of issue. All banknotes feature a portrait of the first Supreme Ruler (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) of Malaysia—Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Important: In areas bordering Singapore and Brunei, be cautious. The dollars of these countries are also sometimes called "ringgit," but they are different currencies. Transactions in Malaysia are almost always conducted in the local currency. Even if a price is quoted in US dollars (often in the tourism sector), you will likely have to pay in ringgit at the current exchange rate.
