Should you tip in Malaysia?

Tipping in Malaysia is not mandatory and is generally not customary. The bill in restaurants, cafes, and hotels usually already includes all taxes and a service charge.
If you really liked the service and want to thank the staff, you can do so discreetly:
- In a restaurant: You can leave change of 1-2 ringgit or tell the waiter not to bring small change.
- To hotel porters: It is appropriate to give 1-2 ringgit.
- To taxi drivers: You can round up the amount for convenience.
Important: if they politely refuse the tip and insist that you take the change, do not argue and take it. This is normal practice.
