The only place in the Philippines and the world where you can guaranteed swim with whale sharks in semi-natural conditions is the village of Tan-awan (Tan Awan) near the city of Oslob in the south of Cebu Island. Tours to the sharks are organized through the local Briefing Centre on the shore.
There are two main interaction options: boat watching or swimming with a mask and snorkel (snorkeling). Diving is also available. The event itself lasts about 30 minutes. Tours to Oslob can be purchased from almost any resort in the region: from Cebu City, from Mactan Island, from Moalboal, as well as from neighboring islands Bohol, Panglao and even Dumaguete on Negros.
More details, including a map and tips for visiting, can be found in our article: Whale Sharks in Oslob.
