Answer (changed )

In Thailand, there are several restrictions on alcohol sales, but from December 3, 2025, one of the key rules is temporarily changed. Here are the main prohibitions:

  • Temporary change (until June 3, 2025): The ban on selling and consuming alcohol during the daytime from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM has been lifted. Now, alcohol can be legally sold and consumed from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
  • Regular rules (after June 3, 2025): Retail sale of alcohol is only allowed from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM. This law is strictly enforced in large supermarkets with automatic checkouts.
  • For bars and clubs: Entertainment venues (bars, clubs) are only allowed to sell alcohol from 9:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
  • Prohibition near educational institutions: Alcohol cannot be sold within less than 300 meters of schools and universities.
  • Complete bans: Sometimes, complete bans on alcohol sales are imposed nationwide due to important events, such as elections or religious holidays. Authorities announce such days in advance.

In small shops or from street vendors, alcohol might be sold outside permitted hours, but this is at their own risk. In cafes and restaurants, alcohol is usually served without time restrictions within their operating hours.
