Fines in Thailand for traffic violations can be quite significant. Here are the most common ones:
- No international driving permit (IDP) — 1000–2000 baht.
- Running a red light — 1000 baht.
- Failure to yield to pedestrians — 4000 baht.
- Parking in a prohibited area — 500 baht + towing.
- Driving under the influence — fine up to 20,000 baht or imprisonment up to 1 year.
You can pay the fine in three ways:
- At the local police station (the fastest way).
- At any Thailand Post branch using the barcode.
- Via QR code on the receipt at Krungthai Bank ATMs.
You can find the full list of all fines, including driving without license plates and fines for motorcyclists, in our separate article: Fines for traffic violations in Thailand — full list. And more information about car rental is in our main guide Car rental in Thailand 2026: complete instructions.
