What are the features of left-hand traffic in Thailand and what should a beginner be prepared for?

The first hours behind the wheel of a right-hand drive car in Thailand require maximum concentration. Here are the main features you need to be prepared for:
- Dimensions and blind spots: The left side of the car becomes a huge blind spot. You need to constantly monitor the left mirror, because that's where local scooters will be coming from.
- Driver mentality: Thais rarely look around and almost never check blind spots when maneuvering. It is believed that the driver is only responsible for the space directly in front of the hood. If the car in front of you suddenly changes lanes without a turn signal, it is your responsibility to brake in time.
- Headlight signals: In Russia, flashing high beams means "I'm letting you pass." In Thailand, it's the opposite: "I'm going first, give way."
- Left turn on red: By default, this is allowed, but only after a complete stop and yielding to pedestrians and vehicles on the right. It is prohibited if there is a "TURNING LEFT WAITING LIGHT" sign or a separate red arrow.
- U-turns: On major highways, the far right lane is designated for U-turns. Often the turning radius is insufficient to fit into the far lane of oncoming traffic, so you have to pull out directly into the second lane.
