Answer (changed )

You can get to Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain) on your own in several ways, but the best and most convenient way is by rented motorcycle or car.

1. By rented motorcycle (recommended):

  • The peninsula is large, and exploring it involves moving between attractions.
  • Important nuance: for climbing to the very top of the mountain to the observation decks (Ban Co Peak), it is formally prohibited to use motorbikes with automatic transmission (scooters-automatics). There is a barrier there, and the guard may not let you through. It is recommended to rent a motorcycle with manual or semi-automatic transmission ("manual" or "semi-automatic").
  • The cost of renting a semi-automatic in Da Nang is from 100,000 dong per day, an automatic from 120,000 dong.
  • With an automatic, you can reach Linh Ung Temple, the museum, beaches, and some coastal viewpoints.

2. By car: An excellent option for a family or group. Renting a car with or without a driver will give you complete freedom of movement.

3. By public transport: City buses No. 8 and No. 9 go to the isthmus leading to the peninsula. However, from the stop to all interesting places, you will have to walk several kilometers or catch a taxi on the peninsula itself, which is not very convenient.

4. By taxi or Grab: You can get from the center of Da Nang, but it will be expensive, especially if you plan to make several stops. The driver will wait or you will have to order a new car each time.
