What to do in Negombo besides the beach?

In Negombo, there is something to do besides beach relaxation, although it is primarily a transit resort. Here are the main leisure options:
- Walks along the shore — the tourist area stretches along a wide street, where you can walk for a long time safely, without fear of crazy tuk-tuks as in other places in Sri Lanka
- Shopping in the city center — in Negombo Town, there are shopping centers, shops, a market, and exchange offices with favorable rates
- Excursions — through local travel agencies, you can book trips to Sri Lanka's attractions
- Restaurants and cafes — in the tourist area, there are many establishments with various cuisines
- Diving — although the water is murky, there are diving centers offering dives
From personal experience: the tourist area was very pleasant for quiet walks. Everything is compact here, you can walk to the center, there are wine shops right in the area. At the same time, it is very quiet, the atmosphere is almost rural.
But it should be said that staying here for more than 2-3 days is difficult — there is not much to see or do. There is nowhere to walk in the evenings, everywhere is dark, and after nine everything goes to sleep.
If you want more entertainment, it is better to go to Colombo or other resorts in Sri Lanka. Negombo is ideal precisely as a place for acclimatization and preparation for further travel.
