Yes, you can buy fish at the markets in Negombo, but you won't be able to cook it right there. Unlike some other well-known Asian fish markets, there is no service for cooking purchased seafood here.

Features of buying fish at Negombo markets:

  • Here, they mainly trade wholesale, and large sellers may not be particularly interested in retail buyers
  • To buy small quantities, it's better to approach sellers who trade on the streets near the markets directly from the ground
  • Prices can be very attractive, especially if you know how to negotiate

If you still decide to buy fish and want to cook it, you'll have to do it yourself. You can try to buy a grill and charcoal at the Coronation supermarket, which is located a few hundred meters from the market. However, before buying fish, it's better to first check the availability of charcoal and a grill in the store, as they might not be in stock.
