Where to stay on Delft Island in Sri Lanka?

On Delft Island, there is a limited number of accommodation options, mainly modest guesthouses and a few hotels that maintain a Robinson Crusoe atmosphere.

Main accommodation options:

• Guesthouses - simple but atmospheric bungalows and rooms in the main village of Delft Village
• Delft Samudra Hotel - considered the best option with relatively more comfortable conditions
• Camping accommodation - for lovers of true Robinson Crusoe experience

Most accommodation options are concentrated in the main village, which consists of just a couple of streets. From the pier, most places can be reached on foot or by tuk-tuk for 400 rupees.

Accommodation can be booked online through popular booking systems; often you have to search by entering the city of Jaffna in the search bar, and then find specific places on Delft Island on the map. The largest selection is offered by Booking.com, but with payment on site.

Conditions are mostly basic: electricity from generators with interruptions, seawater in the tap and shower, simple food choices. This is part of the unique experience of living on a remote island.
